I'm Brenda, a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey.  I may not fit the traditional therapist mold (nor does my practice), but I became a therapist because I believe people deserve honesty.  Not judgement, not coddling, - honesty.  Most people already know what's wrong.  They just need someone to help them stop avoiding it.

Think of me like the friend who tells you when you have spinach stuck between your front teeth, you want to know that, don't you?  I'd rather you be momentarily embarrassed than walk around like that all day.  That's basically therapy with me, except instead of spinach, it's the patterns you keep repeating, things you're avoiding, or the excuses you're making, 


I use evidence-based approaches such as CBT, narrative therapy, family systems, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing.  But I don't hide behind jargon or spend sessions nodding while you talk in circles.  


I listen.  I challenge you.  I give you tools and real practical strategies that you can use immediately.  I'll point out patterns you're repeating, the stories you're telling yourself that aren't true, and the excuses you're making.  Not to be cruel - because I care about you actually getting better.


I'm direct, but I'll give you concrete skills for managing anxiety, setting boundaries, challenging thought patterns, and improving relationships.


I'll tell you when you're sabotaging yourself, if you need to hear something difficult, I won't sugar coat it.  But, I'm not mean - there's a difference between honesty and cruelty.

I don't work with kids.  That's not my expertise.  I don't do endless processing without progress.  If we're having the same conversation for weeks, I'm going to call that out.


I don't validate everything you say just to make you feel good.  Therapy isn't about feeling comfortable - change never happens when we're comfortable.  Therapy is about growth.

You'll probably like working with me if:

  • you've tried therapy before and it felt like nothing really changed.
  • You want someone who will offer more than continual nods.
  • You're tired of making excuses and ready to do something different.
  • You can handle direct feedback (I will be nice)
  • You are looking for more than a vent session.

You probably won't like working with me if:

  • You want constant validation
  • You're looking for a therapist to agree with everything you say
  • You don't really want to face issues or make changes yet

I work with adults dealing with:

  • anxiety (especially if you can't be still)
  • Depression
  • Relationship/Marriage Issues (boundaries, communication, conflict)
  • Life transitions (divorce, career changes, moving, major decisions)
  • Family dynamics (difficult parents, adult children, in-laws)
  • Patterns that keep repeating (same problems - different people)

I see individuals and couple.  Virtual sessions only right now, all New Jersey.
